(Video) Goal! Chelsea 1-1 Manchester City: David Silva Equalises Almost Immediately But What Was Thibaut Courtois Up To?
Mourinho’s side found it hard to get into the game but were put ahead thanks to a Loic Remy goal late in the first half, only for City to almost immediately equalise.
As the second half went on tiredness looked to have set in and the Blues seemed to settle for a point late in the game.
Here are how the players fared during the table topping clash:
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 5
Was at fault for City’s first goal as he flapped at a cross but looked to make amends in the second half with a string of fine saves.
RB: Branislav Ivanovic – 6
Despite the foot injury suffered against Liverpool in midweek, Ivanovic was typically unforgiving at the back and kept the left side of City’s attack calmly at arms length.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7
Showed typical naivity in youth but also that he can be one hell of a defender in the future with some strong tackles.
CB: John Terry – 7
Marshalled the back line well with Zouma and his positional play was excellent to prevent being undone by City’s interchanging forward line.
LB: Cesar Azpilicueta – 5
Was getting turned inside an out by City’s wide men and you expect he would have been hooked if Filipe Luis wasn’t injured.
CM: Ramires – 6
Looked to fulfil the creative void in the middle left by Cesc Fabregas but clearly he isn’t as gifted in the attack as the Spaniard.
However, he did look adept when charging from the Blues defence and added some needed steel in the centre.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 7
Kept City at bay for the most part and kept a handle on Silva for the most part and effectively cancelled out the Spaniard in the second half.
RM: Willian – 6
His strength and speed earned Chelsea their opener after he recovered a poor ball.
CSM: Oscar – 4
Did hardly anything of note in the match. Was virtually invisible far large swathes of the first and second half and you’d only know he was playing courtesy of his name on the team sheet
LM: Eden Hazard – 5
Gave the assist for the opener but seemed to fade away as the match went on. Perhaps the 1-1 draw with Liverpool took it’s toll on Chelsea’s key attacking star.
ST: Loic Remy – 6
Showed he can replace Costa when required with his opening goal but was non-existent in the second half and was eventually replaced for Cahill as Chelsea looked to close the game.
