The 22-year-old is in the final six months of his contract at Turf Moor, and will be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer over the summer.

Brendan Rodgers is said to be a huge admirer of the England under-21 international, and hopes to get the jump on rivals Tottenham for his signature.

However, Burnley aren’t keen on selling, with manager Sean Dyche pinpointing him as an integral part of the club’s survival this season.

But Liverpool will look to bypass a scramble for his signature during the summer windows by offering to buy him now and letting him remain at Burnley for the reminder of the campaign.

Should he leave for free over the summer, Burnley would still be due around £3m in compensation as he is still under 24 years of age.

Dyche explained this week that there had been constant contact from interested parties, though remained adamant that he would be going nowhere this month.

There’s just been contact – constant contact, but we all know where we stand,” he said.

“I think contractual situations are private to players. We try and entrust in our players and our relationships with them.

“Danny’s made it clear he’s going to be here until the end of the season, we’ve made it clear he’s going to be here until the end of the season.

“After that, who knows – watch this space. He wants to be here. He’s made that clear.”
