The Villans are expected to announce the arrival of Sinclair on loan until the end of the season on Friday, after the City misfit arrived in Birmingham on Thursday to undergo a medical and thrash out personal terms.

And reports are now suggesting that they have the England under-19 international in their sights and will challenge Newcastle for his signature over the weekend.

The Magpies had believed to be on the way to signing the 18-year-old with the view to sending him back to the Dons on loan until the end of the season.

But over the last 24 hours Villa have thrown their hat into the ring by offering £2m up front with a loan back option before paying the rest over the summer.

Alli is highly rated and has been scouted by the likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
