The Blues boss is looking to offload Andre Schurrle ahead of a move to sign Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado and whilst Wolfsburg have apparently pulled out of the race to sign the 24 year old World Cup winner though Bundesliga strugglers Borussia Dortmund are ready to meet the west London club’s valuation.
Chelsea paid Bayer Leverkusen £18m for Schurrle 18 months ago and after a decent first campaign at the club the versatile attacker would have hoped to have ‘kicked-on’ after his successful World Cup showing.
However his chances to impress have become few and far between and having made just five Premier League starts it’s perhaps no surprise that Schurrle would be linked with a January transfer.
Westfalenstadion boss Jurgen Klopp sees Schurrle as a ready made replacement for Marco Reus, who’s £20m release clause is expected to be triggered in the summer.
Dortmund are willing to spend £27m on Schurrle, a fee that Mourinho can then swiftly invest in Cuadrado.
Mourinho has wisely used funds from previous sales to help cover the cost of superior replacements with the Portuguese manager securing over £100m from the sales of Juan Mata, David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku alone.
