The 36-year-old ended his career at Argentinian side Argentinos Juniors, having played at Boca Juniors, Villarreal, and Barcelona before that. He also made 51 appearances for Argentina, scoring 17 goals in the process.
The midfielder will always be remembered for his ability from set pieces, as well as his pinpoint passes in open play. Despite not being a major success at Barca, Riquelme has been thought of as one of the best footballers around during the mid-2000s.
