Old Trafford boss keen to spend big.
Louis van Gaal may have spent upwards of £150m on new players last summer but it appears he needs to fork out a fair bit more as he pushes for a top four finish.

The Man United manager has earmarked moves for a trio of talents who could set the Old Trafford side back as much as £70m.
Perhaps unsurprisingly it’s the club’s defence that van Gaal is looking to primarily invest in and with that in mind the Dutchman is readying a £20m bid for Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne according to the Daily Express.
The 23 year old has been in fine form over the past 18 months, leading to a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s England set-up, and would represent a second big money St Mary’s raid in the space of six months with Man United having invested a massive sum to bring in Luke Shaw.
Clyne has been scouted by Man United in recent weeks and is seen as an improvement on the likes of Rafael and Luis Antonio Valencia who currently vie for the right-back berth.
Louis van Gaal is also ready to step-up his interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, again according to the Daily Express, a move that could cost as much as £35m.
The 26 year old World Cup winner has long been linked with a move away from the Westfalenstadion and with Jurgen Klopp’s side sitting in the Bundesliga relegation zone one has to imagine he is as close to an exit as ever before.
Hummels is arguably one of the best central defenders in world football and any successful move to sign the German international would represent a real statement of intent though Louis van Gaal would surely need a Champions League berth to convince the former Bayern Munich man to move to the Premier League outfit.
Man United’s third target is a player Louis van Gaal knows well from his time in charge of the Dutch national team.
Van Gaal will battle Tottenham in pursuit of PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay, a move that could set the club back around £15m according to the Daily Express.
Depay impressed at last summer’s World Cup finals, with van Gaal showing great faith in the 20 year old, netting twice in Holland’s run to the semi-finals.
Van Gaal is apparently considering offloading Adnan Januzahj to make way for Depay, a move that is a tad confusing when one would’ve imagined the likes of Ashley Young and Luis Antonio Valencia would be more deserving of Old Trafford exits.
