Aston Villa Flop Darren Bent Lambasted By Paul Lambert
Earlier this month Lambert claimed that his decision to not select the striker wasn’t down to anything personal and instead Bent’s lack of form.
But the former England international in turn hasn’t responded too kindly to the manager’s suggestion he ‘be honest with himself’ over his part in his failed Villa career.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail the striker, who is now on-loan at Derby County, says it was never revealed to him why he was refused a chance at Villa.
“Aston Villa are a fantastic club and he is taking them in the wrong direction,” he said.
“I had numerous chats with the manager and Roy Keane. Roy told me I was going to get my chance and I was doing really well.
“I spoke to Paul and he told me my chance was coming. He told me my attitude was first class. Then the games came along and I wasn’t playing.”
Bent was speaking after scoring against Chesterfield for Steve McClaren’s Derby in the FA Cup.
It’s thought the striker’s career is now effectively over at Villa and he will be looking to exit the side permanently in the summer.
