Talks have already begun to take place about the position, and what staff the German would like to keep St. James’ Park, with caretaker manager John Carver set to remain, as well as back-room staff Steve Stone and Peter Beardsley.
Schuster is currently out of work after having his contract terminated with La Liga’s Malaga for failing to secure the club a top-half position in the league.
The former German international has managed a number of high-profile clubs, including Spanish giants Real Madrid, along with Besiktas and Levante. However, the attacking midfielder hasn’t spent more than two seasons as manager for any single club.
