Could the AS Monaco man be the ideal short-term solution to the White Hart Lane side’s lack of firepower?
By all accounts Dimitar Berbatov is keen to return to London with the Daily Mail claiming the Bulgarian veteran could be available for as little as £1m, should Mauricio Pochettino therefore consider offering the forward an emotional White Hart Lane return?

Tottenham sold Berbatov to Man United in a massive £30.75m deal back in 2008 and for a period he was persona non grata at the north London club but any tension between the club’s fans and the forward will no doubt have dissipated by now and a move to bring in the 33 year old could prove a short term solution to the club’s lack of effective attacking options.
Were it no for the fine form shown by youngster Harry Kane it’s likely Tottenham’s push for a top four finish would be dead and buried by this point and the lack of goal-scoring support from Roberto Soldado, Emmanuel Adebayor and Erik Lamela has left Pochettino hamstrung for options in the final third.
There is always a danger that a January purchase can back-fire and Pochettino’s desperation to improve his attack may force him to take an expensive gamble, with the Tottenham manager having been linked with big money moves for the likes of Saido Berahino, and therefore a cost effective option may be to target Berbatov.
Berbatov would surely jump at the chance of a return to White Hart Lane, where he spent two successful seasons prior to his Old Trafford switch, and the player’s £70k a week wage demands would represent much of an issue given just how little it would cost to sign him from AS Monaco.
Having netted a healthy 15 goals in 34 appearances for AS Monaco it’s clear Berbatov still has what it takes to impress at the highest level.
