Red Devils will start 10 year mega deal with German sports company next season.
Manchester United’s 10-year, £750 million kit sponsorship deal with Adidas is set to come into effect next season.
With Louis van Gaal expected to go on another spending spree this summer, United sources are said to have claimed “nobody is off limits” once their £75m per season partnership begins, reports the Daily Mail.
But which other clubs have the most lucrative sponsorship agreements in the world? We look at the top 7 below.
7) Manchester City (Nike): £72m – £12m per annum for six years
City might have switched from local kit manufacturers Umbro last season in a six year deal with giants Nike but the petro-fuelled Premier League giants hardly have the most lucrative and their paltry fee will hardly help them correspond with Financial Fair Play regulations.
6) Liverpool (Warrior): £150m – £25m per annum for six years
Liverpool took the unique step of signing with a relatively unknown UK firm that has little impact in this country in a move that was seen as a new brand trying to break into the market.
Warrior general manager Richard Wright said of the sponsorship agreement: “We are here to shake up the world of football.”
5) Barcelona (Nike): £270m – £27m per annum for 10 years
Barcelona announced the mammoth, decade long deal in 2007 and the club will be glad the deal has just two years left.
As the cost of transfers and wage packets continues to rise, will £27m really be enough for a club of Barcelona’s stature to still afford the very best within FFP.
4) Arsenal (Puma): £150m – £30m per annum for five years
Arsenal began their relationship with Puma this season after an extended period with Nike.
It’s the biggest kit deal in both the club’s and the sportswear company’s history and the improved revenue has seen Arsenal able to sign the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Özil in successive seasons.
3) Chelsea (adidas): £300m – £30m per annum for 10 years
The Blues signed a contract with their long-term kit sponsors last season and is the third highest in the world as adidas dominates the top three.
2) Real Madrid (adidas): £248m – £31m per annum for eight years
Real’s deal was knocked off top spot by United’s and was said to be the most lucrative in world football when announced in 2012.
Los Blancos will certainly be looked to get as much if not more than the Red Devils when up for renewal in 2020.
1) Manchester United (adidas): £750m – £75m per annum for 10 years
(What is rumoured to be the new Manchester United adidas kit for next season)
It’s set to be the most lucrative in world football history and could see United spend vast amounts season upon season as they look to get back to the top of the game.
There are even reports in the Daily Mail that the deal with the German sportswear company could see the Red Devils attempt to sign Lionel Messi with the report claiming adidas might even help United with the £200m deal.
