Aston Villa Flop Darren Bent Lambasted By Paul Lambert

Aston Villa boss slams the £18m striker

Darren Bent has all but disappeared from the Premier League since joining Aston Villa and blames this fall on boss Paul Lambert – but the 45 year old says Bent must be honest with himself before passing the blame onto others.

The former England striker’s career with Villa appears over with the 30 year old moving on loan to Derby County for the remainder of the season, and will be a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.

Bent has scored just 25 goals in 72 appearances for The Claret and Blues – and combined with the £18m transfer fee and £55,000 per week wages, each goal has come at a considerable price for the club.

“I think Darren has got to be honest with himself. If you ask anyone here, or any of his team-mates, they’d tell you it’s nothing personal,” Lambert was quoted by the Daily Star.

The Villa boss insists the forward’s poor time in Birmingham was not due to a personal falling out between the pair, but rather a lack of performance on the football pitch by the former Tottenham Hotspur attacker.
