Stoke City news
The Potters boss brought in the Spanish front-man on a cut-price deal from Barcelona this summer, with many surprised at the club taking the gamble on a player who had struggled to impress in recent years.
Despite initially looking like one of the best young players coming through the ranks at the Nou Camp, Bojan struggled to meet expectations and had several unsuccessful loan spells away from the Catalan giants.
Bojan was finally let go this summer, and Stoke are now reaping the benefits as the 24-year-old scored yet another important goal for Hughes’ side in their weekend win over Leicester City.
Asked if the in-form forward was his the best signing of his career, Hughes agreed that he would certainly have to be up there, particularly considering the small fee paid for him in an era of inflated price tags.
Speaking after the game, the Welshman said: “He is up there. The money we paid for him takes people aback I would suggest given some of the figures bandied about for other players.
“We’ve had to wait a little bit, but now he is up to speed and he is enjoying being part of a good team, one that looks to involve him and recognises the ability he has.
“He is thriving in this environment after feeling a little unwanted over the past two or three years, being on the edges of teams he has been involved with, but that’s not the case with him here.
“Obviously he is an outstanding player, but I’ve also been really impressed with his personality.
“Given his career path some players’ heads would have been turned, but he is very level, he has great humility, is a good professional and we’re really pleased with him.”
