Former Sunderland star has a ‘mild’ bout of the disease in Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana captain and star striker Asamoah Gyan is likely to miss out on the Black Stars’ opening game of their 2015 African Cup of Nations campaign against Senegal, report the Mirror, after the former Sunderland forward was admitted to hospital with a mild bout of malaria.

Gyan, who enjoyed a successful stint at the Stadium of Light but is best known for his exploits at the 2010 World Cup, was set to lead his team out for the crucial group stage clash, but is likely to sit this one despite having been released from hospital after just one night because the disease was caught so early.
The experienced striker, who now plays his club football in the Middle East, was admitted to hospital in Equatorial Guinea on Saturday night, but because the disease was diagnosed so early he was able to be released the next morning.
The staging of the competition, which has seen three 1-1 draws in its first four matches after a stalemate between Tunisia and the Cape Verde Islands in the final game of the day, results that have indicated the competition could be wide open.
