The 29 year old, who is currently on African Nations Cup duty with Senegal, has been in fine form this term and it seems unlikely the St James’ Park side would look to sell their top-scorer and the idea of allowing the forward to follow former boss Pardew to Selhurst Park seems sillier still.

Only four players have scored more Premier League goals than Cisse this term and this despite the fact the former Freiburg man has started just six fixtures.

Newcastle United paid £9m for Cisse back in January 2012 and though he has suffered barren spells the lanky marksman has on the whole impressed.

Crystal Palace have seen an upturn in form since Pardew returned to the South London side, winning three on the bounce, with Saturday’s comeback win over Burnley being particularly impressive.

The Clarets were two nil up inside 15 minutes but Palace came back to collect all three points, moving them up to 12th spot.
