The likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar were left at home for the game after the first leg was won 5-0 last week, with Luis Enrique giving an opportunity to youngsters including Munir, Adama Traore and Sergi Roberto.
The Elche manager effectively admitted defeat following last week’s thumping and also left out a number of key players, allowing Barcelona to dominate the opening stages, although it was experienced defender Jeremy Mathieu who kicked off the goalscoring with a sublime long range free kick.
This opened the taps and Barcelona doubled their lead soon after with another thumping finish, this time from the impressive young midfielder Sergi Roberto on his weaker left foot.
Pedro added a third from the penalty spot just before half time after Munir was fouled and, whilst Elche offered more resistance after the break, substitute Alen Halilovic hit the post with a fine curling effort and full back Adriano burst forward to head in a fourth in the final minute.
