Reds boss Brendan Rodgers advised Borini to a move away from the Merseyside club, but the forward snubbed a move to Sunderland, where he spent last season on loan, as well as QPR.

The 23 year old is yet to net a single goal this season, finding himself on the periphery of Rodgers’ first-team plans, with just four starts and nine appearances from the bench.

However, the Italian insists that rejecting a move away from the club in the summer was the correct decision, and is certainly not looking to leave this month:

“I’ve never regretted staying here,” the forward said.

“Yes, I could have left but I wanted to stay at Liverpool and I’m glad I did.

“I won’t be leaving this month either. I started the last game and I don’t see any reason why I would need to change clubs. I see it as all positive for me.”

Daniel Sturridge has been back in training this week, and his return is certain to see Borini head back to the bench.
