The poor performances of the Red Devils since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure has forced the club into spending big – becoming the Premier League’s new chief spenders – increasing their wage by an astonishing 17% from the previous year.
Van Gaal has spent a believed £120m on new signings, such as di Maria and Falcao who have arrived on huge salaries. Not to mention Wayne Rooney’s reported £300,000 per week wage contributed to the rise.
