Ranking The Ten Worst Brendan Rodgers Signings At Liverpool, As Hopeless Moroccan Winger Departs

Liverpool have ditched Moroccan winger Oussama Assaidi after just 12 appearances for the club…

Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi’s disappointing spell at Anfield is over after he joined Al Ahli Club in Dubai. The Moroccan made just 12 appearances for the club after signing in 2012, and has spent the last 18 months on loan with Stoke City.

His departure marks the first exit of a Brendan Rodgers signing at Liverpool, excluding loan deals, and emphasises the Northern Irishman’s struggles in the transfer window. Here are his ten worst permanent deals since arriving at Anfield:

10) Joe Allen (£15m, Swansea City)

The harshest inclusion in this list, but the source of plenty of frustration for many Liverpool fans. Does he do anything other than pass the ball sideways? He may have played 78 games for the club, but we can’t imagine many Reds fans feel they’ve got their money’s worth.

9) Rickie Lambert (£4.5m, Southampton)

The England international was always going to find it difficult to adapt to life at his boyhood club, after being a central figure at Southampton. Has only managed two goals thus far, and doesn’t seem to fit with Rodgers’ style of play.

8) Simon Mignolet (£9m, Sunderland)

Is hopeless too strong a word? After conceding 50 goals last season, Rodgers will have hoped that some strong defensive recruitment would help his Belgian stopper improve. It’s probably fair to say that hasn’t been the case.

7) Tiago Ilori (£7m, Sporting Lisbon)

Still awaiting his first league appearance for the Reds, despite having signed back in the summer of 2013. Has been on loan in Spain and France without a great deal of success, and is unlikely to ever have a first-team role at Anfield.

6) Luis Alberto (£6.8m, Sevilla)

Made just nine league appearances last season before being loaned out to Malaga for the current campaign. Whether he’ll ever have the ability to make it Anfield remains to be seen, but like Ilori the signs don’t look good.

5) Iago Aspas (£7m, Celta Vigo)

Just not Premier League quality sadly… scored only one goal last year, and that came in the FA Cup against League One Oldham Athletic. Yet to score a league goal for Sevilla this season, although has netted seven times in the cup.

4) Fabio Borini (£10.4m, Roma)

Still has just one Premier League goal to his name for Liverpool, but the Italian seems determined to fight for his place at Anfield. When Daniel Sturridge returns from injury however, his chances will become even more limited.

3) Oussama Assaidi (£3m, Heerenveen)

Never looked Liverpool quality, and he couldn’t even get in Stoke’s team by the time his loan deal came to a premature end this month. Will be unlikely to look back on his time with the Reds with much fondness.

2) Dejan Lovren (£20m, Southampton)

How can a player look so good one season, and so hopeless the next. The Croatian’s performances for Southampton convinced Liverpool to part with £20m in the summer, but the player has already been reduced to something of a laughing stock.

1) Mario Balotelli (£16m, AC Milan)

Replacing Luis Suarez with Mario Balotelli, it was never going to work was it… the Italian has been in terrible form on the pitch, without a Premier League goal to his name, and to make matters worse, has been getting in plenty of trouble off the pitch as well.
