Manchester United could be set to spend around £45m to sign two new central defenders to help improve their performances at the back, according to various recent reports.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been on a better run recently, though a long unbeaten stretch came to an end this weekend as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Southampton.
Defence has largely been United’s weak point this season, with youngsters such as Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair playing a surprisingly high number of games, while other established players such as Jonny Evans haven’t always looked at their best.
United now seem to be looking at two La Liga-based stars to tighten up their back four, which could cost around £45m as their big spending from the summer looks set to continue.
The two players are as follows:
1) Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao)
One of the brightest prospects in La Liga at the moment, French centre-back Aymeric Laporte has been linked with United in a £25m move this January. The 20-year-old could be a superb long-term addition at Old Trafford, though other top clubs are also said to be monitoring his situation.
