Chelsea assistant coach Steve Holland has stopped rumours of the club’s supposed involvement in a ludicrous £500m move for Barcelona star Lionel Messi firmly in their tracks.
The West London club have been linked with an astonishing move for Messi – which would require a £200m transfer fee and up to £300m in wages after the Argentine was rumoured to be unhappy in Catalonia following a row with boss Luis Enrique.

However, Holland says the sums being discussed or impossible amounts to comprehend any club actually paying.
“Jose has made it quite clear his expectations are that nobody comes and nobody goes during the transfer window. We’re perfectly happy with what we have,” said the Chelsea assistant boss to the assembled media.
“It’s not a decision I personally would make. When you look at the numbers being mentioned around Messi, I would think it’s an impossible deal for any club working within the financial fair play rules.”
