The former Sheffield United player was reportedly for Oldham Athletic in recent days, but that move now seems to be off the table. Several sponsors including fast food firm Nandos had cut their associations with the club before the transfer was called off.
However, Redknapp believes that the 26-year-old should be given a second chance, pointing out that once someone has served their time then they should be allowed to make a go of it in society again.
“I think it’s about getting a second chance in life,” said the 67-year-old QPR boss.
“It’s very difficult, people make mistakes, dreadful mistakes in life, but people go in prison or whatever they do, whether you’ve murdered someone or whatever, unfortunately a lot of them come out. But once you’ve done your time you’ve done your time, and somewhere along the line you’ve got to come out and make a go of your life,” he added.
For the moment it looks unlikely that any club will take the risk of signing the former Manchester City trainee, and the future of the player is unknown.
