The Spaniard joins on a free transfer.
Manchester United have announced that former FC Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has joined the club on an 18-month contract, with the option to extend that by a further year.
Valdes has been without a club since the summer after announcing he would leave his boyhood side Barcelona when his contract expired.

At the time it looked as if the 32-year-old would head to AS Monaco in Ligue 1, but a cruciate ligament injury put an end to the stopper joining anyone for the remainder of 2014.
Valdes had been training with the Red Devils in order to improve his fitness, having previously worked under the guidance of manager Louis van Gaal whilst at the Nou Camp and is pleased to have signed at Old Trafford.
“It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United,” the Spain international told the club’s website.
“I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex.
“From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club.”
Van Gaal is similarly pleased to have landed Valdes, although is not hiding the fact that the former Barca man will play second fiddle to in-form No.1 David de Gea.
“I am delighted Victor has signed for the club. Victor is a very experienced goalkeeper and his record speaks for itself,” the 63-year-old said.
“He joins the club as the number two goalkeeper and is a great addition to the first team.”
