Defoe is desperate to sign for a Premier League club, having fallen out with current employers Toronto FC.
Liverpool, Leicester City, Sunderland, Hull City and Queens Park Rangers are all said to be interested in the 32-year-old, who is 14th on the Premier League’s all-time topscorers list with 124 goals.
Defoe scored 91 of those league goals during two spells at White Hart Lane.
However, there is no suggestion that he will sign for Spurs for a third time – he is just back at the club to maintain his fitness for now.

Nevertheless, it would not be a massive surprise if Defoe did end up re-signing for Spurs again.
After all, Tottenham are rather short of striking options at present.
Harry Kane is in excellent form, but Roberto Soldado continues to struggle in England, while Emmanuel Adebayor has fallen out of favour due to poor performances, coupled with off-field problems.
