David Moyes Hopes to Make Chelsea Winger First Real Sociedad Signing
Here are Barca’s biggest flops. You’ll see from the list that there is still hope for a career after the Nou Camp.
10) Giovanni Dos Santos
The Mexican tore it up in the Barca B team and youth sides, but was unable to make it at the highest level. He is now at Villareal, and has carved himself out a fairly successful career in La Liga.
9) Ibrahim Afellay
The winger was signed from PSV Eindhoven in for 3 million euros, and only made 33 appearances in his first two years at the club due to injuries. He is now out on loan at Olympiakos, and looks unlikely to ever make it at the Catalan club.
8) Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Now at PSG, the fee for Ibrahimovic was £40 million plus Samuel Eto’o. The Swede proceeded to fall out with whoever he could at the club, and left after just one season.
7) Juan Roman Riquelme
The midfielder is thought of as one of the best talents to have come out of Argentina, but he still didn’t make it at Barca. Signed in 2002 for 11 million euros, then manager Louis van Gaal hadn’t wanted him in the first place. Now 36, he was only at the Catalan club for a short time, and moved on to Villarreal.
6) Alex Song
Currently on loan at West Ham, the Cameroonian never really had a chance after signing for £15 million in 2012. There aren’t many players who could get in the team ahead of Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and Sergio Busquets.
5) Eidur Gudjohnsen
Excellent at Chelsea, the Iceland international did not follow this up at the La Liga giants. After signing for 12 million euros in 2006, he was on the bench for long periods of time at the Spanish club.
4) Alexander Hleb
Another Arsenal ace who couldn’t make it at the Nou Camp. Hleb actually admitted that he regretted ever leaving the Gunners after his failed move to Catalonia for 19 million euros in 2008.
3) Dmytro Chygrinskiy
The Ukrainian played brilliantly for his national team and Shakhtar Donetsk before his move to Barca for 25 million euros in 2009. However, it would seem that Pep Guardiola never really wanted the player and he left after just one season.
2) Henrique
Arriving from Brazilian side Palmeiras with a big reputation in 2008, the defender was released four years later without having a single game for the club after several loan periods. He is now giving European football another go at Napoli.
1) Keirrison
Signed in 2009 for 14 million euros, he left the Catalan club in March after not playing a single match. He has now gone back to boyhood club Coritiba after several unsuccessful loan spells at clubs around Europe.
