Adebayo Akinfenwa: Five Things You Need To Know About Liverpool Tormentor And Wimbledon ‘Beast’

The striker is certainly unique.

In a repeat of the 1988 FA Cup final AFC Wimbledon and Liverpool went head-to-head on Monday night in the Third Round – although a lot has changed since that victorious day for the South London club.

In fact the original Wimbledon became MK Dons back in 2002 – much to the anger of their fans – and the new club were created at the time in protest and have since worked their way up the divisions to their current League Two standing.

Yet although the Reds progressed through as expected, the game was a lot closer than many imagined and one of the main tormentors for the hosts was the completely unique Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Here are five things you need to know about the man known as ‘The Beast.’

He weighs 16 stone

In an age where footballers are seen less with a pint and a cigarette in their hand and more down the gym, Akinfenwa is hardly a player at the peak of physical fitness.

His burly and rounded figure makes him far from the chiseled, model-like structure of someone like Cristiano Ronaldo.

He is the strongest player on FIFA 15

Little known to fans outside of England, Akinfenwa has hit fame for his position as strongest player on the globally popular FIFA franchise.

The forward has 99 strength on the game and was invited to the UK launch of the latest edition – where he showed off his skills by lifting a member of staff.

He can bench press 180kg

This might sound a bit like gym lingo, but to put it into perspective that is basically like lifting two big men – or a fully grown lion.

So Akinfenwa’s size is not just bulk, he can actually back it up with some serious strength that makes him a difficult player to mark.

He has played for 12 different clubs

For a 32-year-old this isn’t bad going and it also doesn’t include the period the attacker spent in the Watford youth academy.

The only two clubs Akinfenwa has played for longer than two years is Gillingham and Northampton Town.

He idolises Steven Gerrard… and threatened to punch his Wimbledon teammates if they took his shirt

Following the match at Kingsmeadow the scorer of the only goal for the home side made sure he exchanged shirts with the match winner for the opposition – Gerrard.

Akinfenwa did threaten to punch one his teammates though if they stole the honour from him, although he probably won’t be able to squeeze into the 34-year-old’s jersey.
