Dario Canovi said the Brazilian born star was on the radar of a number of other European giants including Inter Milan and Real Madrid, remarking that Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the 32 year old.
“Motta is an important central midfielder and a number of teams are looking at him, such as Inter Milan, Manchester United and even Real Madrid as Ancelotti knows him well,” Canovi told Spanish news source Mundo Deportivo.
The midfielder was actually signed by Ancelotti when he was boss at PSG for a reported €10 million fee after success in Serie A with Inter.
In Italy, Motta was a key member of Jose Mourinho’s treble winning Inter side of 2009/10 before he moved to the French capital where his assured leadership led the Parisians to the Ligue 1 title.
A new defender will surely be top of Louis van Gaal’s transfer wishlist heading into the January window, but United haven’t looked the most forceful in midfielder, despite Wayne Rooney’s transition to a more central role.
Motta would also add some much needed steel to the Red Devils top four challenge in the second half of the season.
