Hull’s strikers Abel Hernandez and Nikica Jelavic were on form in the club’s 2-0 win over Everton on New Year’s Day, but Bruce admitted that he is still looking to bring in more options to boost his forward line.
The 32-year-old is thought to be available at the right price from Major League Soccer franchise Toronto FC but Bruce, like Harry Redknapp at QPR, appears to have concerns over the finances involved.
“There’s always speculation, you ask any club in the bottom of the division, all of us would say yes,” Bruce said of Defoe.
“Whether we can do it financially is another problem.
“If he becomes available, which I believe he is, then we’d love to do something. I think it might be too expensive but it’s not a bad bit of speculation.”
