Three In, Three Out For Liverpool: Brendan Rodgers’ Perfect January Transfer Window

Rodgers needs to reinforce the spine of his team to have any chance of a top four finish…

Brendan Rodgers will be looking at January as the perfect way to solidify his brittle side to ensure Liverpool are once again competing for a top four finish after a poor first few months of the season.

We look at the best possible January transfers available to the Anfield boss who won’t want to disrupt the current signs of a resurgence in his fragile Liverpool squad with too many ins and outs.

OUT: Fabio Borini

Borini’s time at Anfield has been up for some time, surely, with Rodgers clearly not trusting the Italian and only using him as a last resort.

A loan move away, similar to his spell at Sunderland, could put Borini’s name at the top of several suitors shopping lists for the summer and give him some much desired game-time.

OUT: Brad Jones

Jones may be out of contract anyway in the summer (plus you’d wonder who would actually be willing to spend money on him) and he might be just slightly worse than Mignolet but removing him in January it would allow Liverpool to both free space on the wage bill and almost immediately improve the standard of keeping at Anfield.

Mignolet looks like he himself will be on the way out but is slightly less error prone than Jones and could prove a decent back-up before too being shifted in the summer.

OUT: Jose Enrique

The Spaniard only really played during one of his seasons at Liverpool before falling down the pecking order and receding into the background.

Liverpool could do worse than to remove him from the wage bill and place a rising young star in his squad position.

IN: Petr Cech (Chelsea)

Almost the antithesis to Liverpool’s current goalkeepers; Cech’s cool calm and collected persona could do wonders to their defensive frailties after improving both their presence between the sticks and reinsure the Liverpool defence that they have an experienced and confident goalkeeper behind them who will not make rash decisions.

IN: Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

The Frenchman could be the perfect compliment to Daniel Sturridge on the Reds frontline after Mario Balotelli has continually failed to impress.

Lacazette has recently signed a new deal and the move would be hard to work but Lacazette is one of the few forwards on the market who could make an immediate impact.

IN:  Ezequial Garay (Zenit St Petersburg)

As Russia clubs fail to deal with the collapsing price of the Rouble, star players in the country could become available on the market in January. Garry could be the easoned and experienced head at the back Liverpool so sorely need after the failure of Dejan Lovren’s summer move.
