Yes Arsene Wenger has turned over a leaf and is more than happy to splash the cash but why would he spent £50m on a new forward when he currently has a host of effective strikers, and wide-attacking options, in his armoury?
>William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon) – Price £20m
Chances of January transfer: 4/10
Yes the 22 year old fits the bill in terms of offering the north London side some much needed steel in the middle of the park but a) Wenger may not be keen on forking out such a sum on a relatively inexperienced performer and b) the Portuguese international would be unable to partake in Champions League action, making a January move even less likely.
Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle United) – £16m
Chances of January transfer: 5/10
The French international is strong in the tackle and offers a real threat in the final third and Newcastle United are well versed in selling their top talents but Arsene Wenger may well look to bring in an out and out defensive midfielder over a move for the Mapgies man.
Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton) – £20m
Chances of January transfer: 6/10
French international has shown great character this season, putting in a series of strong displays following the departure of a number of his team-mates. The 25 year old may well leave St Mary’s but given just how well the Saints are doing at this juncture, a top four shot being a genuine target, one imagines the tough tackler may be persuaded to hold off considering leaving next month.
Winston Reid (West Ham) – £4m
Chances of January transfer: 9/10
The New Zealand defender is in good form and is out of contract next summer and as such the Upton Park side may have to consider selling the 26 year old in January to avoid the loss of the player on a free transfer. Reid would be an ideal capture to boost Arsenal’s defensive options.
