Europe’s Ten Best Club Sides Of 2014: Chelsea Only 7th, Liverpool And Man City Miss Out, But Arsenal Make The Cut
Burnley came back from two goals down to draw with Manchester City on Sunday in a massive upset, but where will it some on this list?
The matches are ranked by how high the odds of the result were before kick off.
10) Stoke City 1-2 Burnley, 5.98 to 1
Wins were like buses for Burnley, after having to wait until November to get one they then proceeded to get two in a row. This was the second victory, where they went to the Britannia and won at a ground that even title challengers are afraid of visiting.
9) West Ham 2-1 Manchester City, 6.03 to 1
The Hammers made the league sit up and take notice of their great start to the season when they beat last season’s champions. Could this result be the moment when they started to really believe that the top four might be achievable?
8) Newcastle United 2-1 Chelsea, 6.19 to 1
Chelsea were unbeaten up until this point, and they didn’t look anywhere near to letting that record slip. However, the Magpies had different ideas and shocked Jose Mourinho’s side, leaving their dream of matching the “invincibles” in tatters.
7) Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle United, 6.20 to 1
Another big Newcastle win, and this was during a run of victories that took them to within touching distance of the top four. It was also the match in which Ayoze Perez scored his first goal for the North East club.
6) Everton 2-3 Crystal Palace, 6.68 to 1
A match eerily reminiscent of the same fixture last season, which had the exact same scoreline. The Eagles came away from Goodison Park with all of the points, and now seem to have something over both Merseyside clubs.
5) Tottenham 0-1 West Brom, 6.73 to 1
Alan Irvine got his first win as manager of the Baggies at White Hart Lane, with Jame Morrison grabbing the all important goal. However, the midlands club have since failed to kick on from this morale boosting victory.
4) Manchester City 2-2 Burnley, 7.09 to 1
Sean Dyche’s side went in at half time two goals down. However, the manager must have said something inspirational during the break, as they came out in the second half and managed to come away with a point from the game.
3) Manchester United 1-2 Swansea City, 7.76 to 1
Louis van Gaal did not have the best start as manager of the Red Devils, with the Swans arriving at Old Trafford and outplaying the Dutchman’s side for much of the match. The result was well deserved for the Welsh side.
2) Liverpool 0-1 Aston Villa, 10.11 to 1
Villa gave the Reds a warning if what was in store for their season with their win at Anfield. However, it was not a sign of things to come for them, with Paul Lambert’s team still in danger of relegation with nearly half of the campaign gone.
1) Manchester City 0-1 Stoke City, 13.36 to 1
Mark Hughes always seems extra motivated when he comes up against the club that he used to manage, and it paid off here. According to the odds, this was the biggest shock of the season so far by a mile.
