Louis Van Gaal explained Fellaini’s absence from the squad to face Newcastle as down to a mysterious illness and said the former Everton star would also be a doubt for this weekend’s fixture.
However, according to the report the midfielder is also suffering from a rib injury that he acquired in United’s 3-0 win over Liverpool – it was hoped he would be fit for the Spurs game but this new injury is set to keep him out of all the club’s upcoming matches.
Fellaini is not expected to return until the Red Devils face off against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup on January 4th.
United have however received an injury boost with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw all recovering ahead of schedule and close to returns to the first team.
