9. Wenger does the Van Persie

If seeing a man in his mid-60s playing beach football isn’t funny enough, the moment the Gunners boss emulated Robin Van Persie’s iconic header against Spain during a friendly game of volleyball sent us over the edge. Wenger had a great time in Brazil where he was working as a pundit for French TV, and gave us all a chuckle with his antics on the beach.

8. James Rodriguez and his little friend

During Colombia’s clash with hosts Brazil at the World Cup, something on James Rodriguez’s arm caught more attention than his penalty. Apparently, the midfield star had been attacked by a giant grasshopper. At first, many thought it had been photoshopped, only for the giant beast to appear real.

7. Neymar’s slip

The Barca star missed out of the semi-final defeat to Germany with a back injury, but he very nearly could have been sidelined sooner after he slipped up whilst joining his teammates for a celebration.

6. Linesman styles out being blanked

As Spain and Chile lined up to face each other at the World Cup, Canadian linesman Joe Fletcher styled out a blanking the best way he knew how – by rubbing his bald head.

5. Thomas Muller’s trip

He may have had the last laugh, but the Bayern Munich star botched a training ground manoeuvre with a comic trip to the ground.

4. Santiago Vergini’s amazing own goal

What a goal this was…shame it was at the wrong end. He’ll likely never score a goal as good as this for his side rather than against them.

3. Sabella faints

When Gonzalo Higuain hit the bar during the World Cup clash with Belgium, coach Alejandro Sabella performed his usual fainting trick, only this time it went further than he imagined as he actually nearly fell over, and had to be caught by his back room staff.

2. Adrian Chiles gets a soaking

Classic Chiles. What will he get up to next?

1) Gerrard slips

Classic slapstick. Following his emotionally charged speech about not slipping, Gerrard goes and does exactly that in the next game against Chelsea to virtually hand the Premier League title to Manchester City.
