The Red Devils have been linked to the midfielder since new boss Louis van Gaal took charge at Old Trafford. The 63-year-old was in charge of the Dutchman while he was manager of the Holland national team. Since then both coach and player are thought to want to work together again.
However, Pallotta would seem to have scuppered any hopes of that happening in at least the near future. With any potential transfer having to go through him before it is allowed, his opposition to the move could be fatal to the chances of one happening.
He explained that he believes that the 24-year-old and teammate Leandro Castan are integral to the Serie A team, and that with them they would have been first in the league. The club president also thinks that his team will be going further in the Champions League next season.
Strootman will not go to Manchester United,” the American told Roma Radio. “We would be first in the league were it not for the injuries to Castan and Strootman.
“I think we’re a team of Scudetto and Champions League quality. Jose Holebas and Kostas Manolas are integrating well and we are firmly convinced that we will fight for the Champions League [next season],” he added.
