The pundit has written off Chelsea’s chances of a historic four trophy haul.
In his weekly column on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has dismissed talk of Chelsea winning an unprecedented quadruple.
No sooner had the Blues suffered their first defeat of the season than pundits switched their subject of choice from the potential “invincible” season to an even more ludicrous suggestion: the idea that the West Londoners could win all four competitions they’re involved in.
But Sky pundit Carragher thinks that would be a step too far for José Mourinho’s side.
“I don’t think so,” the former Liverpool defender answered when asked about whether it was a possibility.
“It will be very difficult. There was talk of them going unbeaten and that went and I would imagine sooner or later they will lose a game in a cup competition. That is normal for any team really.

“They are the best side in the country and one of the top sides in Europe, but no team in England has ever won the quadruple. United did the treble in 1999 but I’m not sure winning all four will ever be done.
“It’s very difficult. I am sure Jose Mourinho would be happy if he got a couple of trophies this season.”
Carragher won’t be alone in holding this opinion. Chelsea have looked strong all season but are still vulnerable. At this point in the season last year there was similar talk of doubles or trebles and the Blues ended up winning nothing.
Their loss against relegation threatened Sunderland in the Capital One Cup last term showed exactly how unpredictable football can be. The Blues were in their best form of the season and the Black Cats their worst, but the North East side ran out winners, dumping the West London outfit out of the cup unexpectedly.
Mourinho was not prepared to see that happen again this term, and the Portuguese manager played a full strength side containing the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas against Derby County on Tuesday night.
