Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United meet at White Hart Lane this evening, with a place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals up for grabs.
It is arguably both sides’ biggest game of the season so far.
With that in mind, here are the XI players we expect Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino to select to start.
GK: Hugo Lloris
Michel Vorm has started in both of Tottenham’s Capital One Cup games this season – against Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion. However, Newcastle are a very dangerous team, so Pochettino will need his main man between the sticks.
RB: Kyle Naughton
Eric Dier is injured, while Kyle Walker should be given a rest after playing two games in four days.
LB: Danny Rose
Rose began the season as Tottenham’s first-choice left-back, playing in all of their Premier League games, with Ben Davies filling in during cup and European games. However, those roles have swapped over recently.
CB: Younes Kaboul
Captain Kaboul has spent a lot of time on the bench in recent weeks, but he should lead out the side this evening.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
Kaboul is most comfortable alongside Vertonghen, so the Belgian should get the nod.
CM: Nabil Bentaleb
The classy Algerian has quickly become one of Tottenham’s best players. He could be a key man tonight.
CM: Mousa Dembele
Former Fulham star Dembele impressed during a substitute appearance at Swansea on Sunday. He just about did enough to convince the manager that he deserves a start.
AM: Aaron Lennon
Spurs will need their experienced stars to be on top form. Lennon, who is the longest-serving player at the club, should provide plenty of pace and effort.
AM: Harry Kane
Kane is undroppable. He seems to perform at his best in the number 10 position, where he played against Swansea on Sunday, scoring one goal and playing a key role in another. The young Englishman ran 13.1km in that game – further than any other play has travelled during a Premier League match this season.
AM: Andros Townsend
Christian Eriksen, who is Tottenham’s best player, is likely to start on the bench to keep fresh. The Dane will probably be introduced in the second half, when the Newcastle defenders are tired from chasing after the rapid Townsend.
ST: Roberto Soldado
Emmanuel Adebayor is back with Spurs, after being given a leave of absence for personal problems. He is very unlikely to start though, meaning that Soldado will probably be given another chance to kick-start his season.
