Roy Keane’s sudden departure from Aston Villa was down to a training ground bust up rather than being given too much of a workload, according to the Daily Mail.

The reason originally given for Keane leaving Villa was that he wanted to give his full attention to the assistant coach job with the Republic of Ireland, but it seems now however that that is not the case.

With the former Manchester United star known for his explosive nature, it is not surprising to hear that the real reason for his exit was that he was clashing with a number of the senior players.

“The atmosphere was horrible. It went downhill the moment Keane arrived. He p****d off all the big names he shouldn’t have p****d off and his relationship with the senior players slowly fell apart,” claimed the Mail’s source.

“There was so much gloom about the place every time he turned up. When he went there was just a feeling of euphoria and relief.”

The problems culminated in two major training ground incidents involving Fabian Delph and Gabby Agbonlahor. The first with Delph occurred when Keane berated the midfielder in front of the entire team, the England international taking exception to his comments.

The second incident almost came to blows, with Keane interrupting Agbonlahor while he was talking to Paul Lambert. The pacey forward was not happy about his arrival, and said, “Excuse me, but I’m talking to the boss!”

Keane took offence and felt he was being disrespected, with the two having to be separated before a fight broke out.
