The Daily Star explains that the 24-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Rome in recent months, and it’s believed the player has his eyes set on a move to the Premier League.
Several sources have claimed that a move to Old Trafford was something of an inevitability, considering manager Louis van Gaal’s links with the player, who worked under him during his time with the Dutch national side.
The United boss is reportedly in the process of preparing a bid in the region of £30m for the midfielder, but will now face competition for his services from a familiar foe.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho is allegedly a big fan of combative midfielder, and is eager to add him to his squad this winter. Chelsea’s reported interest in Strootman could come as a huge blow to United, and potentially spark a bidding war between the two English giants.
