Celtic could be set to lose on the signing of impressive 22 year-old midfielder Stuart Armstrong from SPL rivals Dundee United, with the Mail reporting that Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are lining up an eye-catching move to take the player to the Primeira Liga.

Armstrong is poised to become the second Tannadice star to make the move to the Portuguese capital after prodigious teenage winger Ryan Gauld made the move to Sporting in the summer, with the club immediately slapping a huge buyout clause on a player they view as a potential star of the future.
Armstrong is slightly older than Gauld, but has far more senior experience in the Scottish top flight than his former teammate did when making the big move, with his performances for the Terras in the SPL having attracted the attention of Ronny Deila’s league leaders Celtic, who are also believed to be interested in signing Armstrong.
United are having a fine season and are one of a couple of teams currently hanging to the coattails of Celtic at the top of the table, with a 3-2 win over relegation threatened Ross County maintaining the Tangerines’ position at the weekend after the leaders beat ten man Motherwell by a goal to nil at Fir Park.
