Apparently van Gaal will be given more money to spend.
Despite the fact Manchester United have spent around £215m on new players in the past 18 months, Louis van Gaal is going to be given a further budget to take the spending before the start of next season to a whopping £350m, reports the Times, Manchester Eveing News and the Guardian.

Here’s how the Dutchman is thinking of spending that cash according to the British newspapers.
Gareth Bale
This may sound a little ridiculous as Real Madrid only paid a world record £85.3m fee for Bale in 2013, but the 13-time Premier League champions were keen to land the Welshman then and have one bargaining tool to convince Los Blancos to sell – David de Gea.
Cost: £90m (- de Gea’s fee).
Radamel Falcao
Currently on-loan at Old Trafford the Red Devils have the option to sign the striker permanently from AS Monaco if he is considered a success. Having only scored one goal to date and injuries affecting his progress that is far from a done deal though.
Cost: £43.5m (+ the £6m loan fee already paid).
Arjen Robben
Having managed him at both Bayern Munich and for the Netherlands national team, van Gaal is hoping that he can tempt the 30-year-old winger to the Theatre of Dreams. However, Robben’s age and expected price don’t make this a very cost effective deal.
Cost: £40m
Mats Hummels
With Borussia Dortmund rock bottom in the Bundesliga after an appalling start to the season there could be no better time to try and prise their captain away. United desperately need an experienced centre-back to settle things in defence and Hummels is a World Cup winner.
Cost: £35m.
Aymeric Laporte
This 20-year-old defender has been causing quite a stir in La Liga with his impressive performances and United think he could be a great option at the back. However, Laporte’s age and reputation means the Frenchman won’t come cheap.
Cost: £32m.
Kevin Strootman
Van Gaal has worked with this AS Roma midfielder before with the Dutch national team and it’s widely reported Strootman wants a reunion with the 63-year-old. The midfielder has only just recovered from a cruciate ligament injury though so could be a risk.
Cost: £30m.
Diego Godin
Another central defender Man United have their eye on, although at 28-years-old Godin is an older option than Hummels. Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has dismissed reports of the Uruguay international leaving, but his club do have a reputation of selling their best players.
Cost: £25m.
Nathaniel Clyne
Having impressed at Southampton and is now considered England’s No.1 choice at right-back, this 23-year-old could be the ideal signing for van Gaal. Clyne has really progressed with the Saints in recent times and could be a shrewd buy.
Cost: £20m.
Marco Reus
Back to Dortmund now and despite his world-class reputation this Germany international has a relatively small release clause that becomes active next summer – as revealed by Bayern. The German champions are also interested in Reus, as are a number of other top clubs.
Cost: £19.8m.
Dani Alves
With Rafael the only available natural right-back for van Gaal currently and the Brazilian struggling to find form and fitness, a new option in the position wouldn’t go amiss. This fellow Brazil international has admitted he could leave FC Barcelona as well.
Cost: £15m.
Victor Valdes
Finally a player who won’t break the bank, with Valdes currently a free transfer having left the Nou Camp in the summer. Valdes has been training with United as he recovers from injury and could be tempted into either replacing or acting as competition for de Gea.
Cost: Free.
