Arsenal Injury Update: Bad News On Theo Walcott
Chelsea have yet to lose a match in any competition in 2014/15, and many reckon they can emulate Arsenal’s invincible team of 2003/04.
But who had the better side?
Here’s who we’d pick in each position in a fantasy XI, and why.
GK) Jens Lehmann v Thibaut Courtois
Not a tricky one, this. Chelsea’s second choice keeper Petr Cech would have got in over the dodgy German as well.
Vote: Courtois
DR) Lauren v Branislav Ivanovic
One of the weaker members of Arsenal’s unbeaten side, Lauren has no chance of being rated ahead of the excellent Serbian.
Vote: Ivanovic
DL) Ashley Cole v Cesar Azpilicueta
We’re choosing Cole for the extra attacking impetus he provides, while being similarly defensively excellent to Azpilicueta.
Vote: Cole
DC) Kolo Toure v John Terry
Terry’s probably the best defender in the history of the Premier League, and is an easy choice ahead of Toure, here.
Vote: Terry
DC) Sol Campbell v Gary Cahill
Cahill’s improving into a truly elite centre-back, but Campbell proved it at the highest level for many years.
Vote: Campbell
MC) Patrick Vieira v Nemanja Matic
Matic is sublime, but Vieira added drive through the centre of the park to his brilliant battling qualities.
Vote: Vieira
MC) Gilberto v Cesc Fabregas
No competition, here. Fabregas’s creative spark sees him earn a central midfield berth alongside Vieira in this fantasy XI.
Vote: Fabregas
AMR) Robert Pires v Willian
Willian’s technically strong, but he doesn’t posses the genius or the end product of the former Premier League Player of the Year.
Vote: Pires
AML) Freddie Ljungberg v Eden Hazard
Hazard’s showing the potential to develop into one of the world’s very, very best players, something Ljungberg never threatened to do.
Vote: Hazard
AMC) Dennis Bergkamp v Oscar
Oscar has the talent to one day be considered close to a player of Bergkamp’s stature, but the Dutchman walks into this side on account of his effortless and visionary brilliance.
Vote: Bergkamp
FC) Thierry Henry v Diego Costa
Costa’s good, but he’s not Thierry Henry: the greatest striker ever to grace the top flight.
Vote: Henry
