Liverpool Football Club will finally begin construction on their proposed Anfield expansion plan this Monday, reports Daily Mirror.

Following years of disagreements, particularly with local residents in the Anfield area, the issues look to have finally been resolved with the club buying the final house needed to begin their expansion.

The project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2016-17 season and will increase the Reds stadium capacity from around 45,500 to 59,000 – making Anfield the third biggest ground in the Premier League.

The £100 million stadium refurbishment plan comes as part of Fenway Sports Group’s wider commitment to rejuvenate the local area around the stadium.

Liverpool’s stadium plans have been a long and protracted affair with the club announcing as far back as 2000 their intention of building a new arena on the nearby Stanley Park.

After a number of failed proposals – including the idea of a ground share with rivals Everton – and a number of new designs the idea of constructing a new stadium was scrapped with the club favouring a redevelopment of Anfield’s current facilities.

It now seems that after 14 years, Liverpool’s stadium renovation will finally begin construction.
