Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas is the only Premier League player to make the statistically best European XI, according to data by Who Scored.

Despite some brilliant goals from the likes of Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez, and brilliant defensive displays from Gary Cahill and John Terry in the league this season, just one player who plays on these shores has made the cut.

Goalkeeper: Yann Sommer (Borussia Mönchengladbach)

Just the 10 goals conceded for Mönchengladbach in the league this season, including keeping Bayern Munich’s explosive forward line at bay in a 0-0 with Pep Guardiola’s side.

The German side have goalkeeper Sommer to mostly thank for that with some brilliant and composed displays this season.

Right Back: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

Granted Ramos is strange choice considering his move to central defence in recent seasons, but forced out to the right due to some more consistent performances in central defence.

However, he can still marshall the right wing when necessary and has developed into one of the most consistent European defenders.

Centre Back: Naldo (Wolfsburg)

The big Brazilian has put in some domineering performances for Wolfsburg and was recently rewarded with a new contract because of it.

The 32 year old centre back also has an impressive record going forward with three goals and one assist in the Bundesliga this season.

Centre Back: Vitorino Hilton (Montpellier)

Another Brazilian on the list and despite being 37 years old can still cut it with best of the European elite.

Hilton has won an impressive 3.9 arial duels on per match on average in the league and 3.3 interceptions a game.

Left Back: Jordan Amavi (Nice)

The 20 year old only made is Ligue 1 debut last season for Nice but has already developed into one of France’s most competent full backs.

The youngster has worked his way through the youth ranks of his national side and he might expect a future call up to the France squad in the near future if he continues to improve.

Central Midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

Maligned at fc Barcelona, the 27 year old are showing the Catalans what a mistake it was to let him go with two goals and 13 assists in his first 18 games for Chelsea.

Attacking Midfield: Kevin de Bruyne (Wolfsburg)

Chelsea, though, will be glad to have Fabregas if it hides the monumental mistake of letting de Bruyne leave the club in January this year.

The 23 year old has a similar record to Fabregas, with four goals and 11 assists since the season’s start, and Blues fans will be left wondering just why the Belgian was never given the chance at Chelsea.

Right Wing: Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich)

Robben was unlucky to miss out on a nomination for the Ballon d’Or after a stonking last year for Bayern.

In just 13 appearances for Guardiola’s side this season the forward has scored eight goals and four assists.

Left Wing: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)

A ridiculous 55 goals in 55 games for the Portugese forward. Ronaldo was instrumental in Real’s Champions League and Copa del Rey success and is already on an incomprehensible 20 goals in 12 La Liga appearances.

Forward: Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)

Lacazette’s impressive form for the past two seasons has seen him linked with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool in recent transfer windows, but the forward insists he would love to stay at Lyon for the rest of his playing career.

Forward: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Recently breaking scoring records in La Liga and the Champions League Messi has firmly cemented himself as an all time great.

Despite a minute drop in the form he’s shown in recent seasons it’s still taken an astronomically good season from Ronaldo to beat the Argentine into the statistically best player in Europe this season.
