The Spaniard has been in fine form for the Blues ever since Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge in 2013 and converted Azpilicueta to a left-back.
In fact the form of the 25-year-old led Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville to describe the full-back as ‘the best defender in England’ and it is therefore little surprise that interest has grown in his home country.
However, Azpilcueta has put fans of the West Londoners’ minds at ease by stating that he has no intention of moving back to Spain.
“I do not think about [a move to Spain],” the former Olympique Marseille man was quoted by the Daily Express.
Azpilicueta completed the £7m move to the Bridge from Marseille in the summer of 2012, but struggled at first assert himself in the starting XI with Branislav Ivanovic preferred at right-back.
However, when Mourinho took charge the 51-year-old viewed the defender as a more useful option on the left and he usurped the aging Ashley Cole from the role in 2013/14.
Cole has since left the club for AS Roma and despite the £15.8m purchase of Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, Azpilicueta is still the established star on the left side of the back four.
