Marco Reus Could Be On His Way To The Premier League After Borussia Dortmund Deny Real Madrid Rumours
Yohan Cabaye could be set for a quick return to the Premier League just one year after leaving with a host of English clubs said to be chasing his signature following reports he’s unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Newcastle United man has struggled to convince manager Laurent Blanc at the Parc des Princes and his chances have been limited to just seven starts this season for PSG.
CaughtOffside take a look at which clubs could come in for the unsettled midfielder once the transfer window opens in January.
5.) Newcastle
As ridiculous an idea as it sounds, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has admitted he would love to bring Cabaye back to St. James’ Park, but doesn’t see the North East as Cabaye’s likely destination due to a lack of Champions League football.
United sold Cabaye to PSG last January for just over £20 million and the Magpies resulting nose-dive in form has been heavily linked to the Frenchman’s absence.
4.) Manchester United
A new name to pop out of the transfer rumour generator but an astute signing for United if it came off.
The Red Devils have continuously looked light in midfield and have had to rely on United veterans Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick to marshal the gap between United’s inexperienced defence and blistering attack.
Cabaye would certainly add some much needed impetus to Louis van Gaal’s campaign to get his side back into the Champions League.
3.) Liverpool
Liverpool have eyed a £19 million move for Cabaye according to reports and feel confident about the prospect of a deal after PSG team-mate Javier Pastore revealed the Frenchman’s unhappiness at being sidelined.
2.) Paris Saint Germain
Despite being linked with numerous moves away, Cabaye could still remain in the French capital.
He only signed for PSG a year ago, he’s back in his home country and, according to PSG team-mate Javier Pastore, is frustrated at his lack of game time but as of yet has no firm desire to leave.
However PSG may be forced to sell to comply with Financial Fair Play sanctions if they do indeed have their eyes set on another extravagant purchase.
1.) Arsenal
It’s Arsenal, though, that remain the most likeliest destination for Cabaye should he choose to leave PSG in the search for more game time according to recent speculation.
When a lightweight, tricky midfielder is on the market you know one club is going to neglect all other pressing team issues and try and buy him. Plus you get the sense Arsene Wenger is still smarting from his rejected £10 million bid for the Frenchman whilst he was at Newcastle.
However, Arsenal have been linked with a host of midfield names and you can only see the Gunners getting one. Cabaye looks a reasonable choice given the ageing Mikel Arteta and long-term ankle ligaments injury to Jack Wilshere, but there’s so many names in the mix in terms of Arsenal’s midfield targets, who knows what’s going to end up happening?
