The controversial coach would certainly be a popular choice for many major club, and international sides – with the current bosses of Premier League trio of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all under pressure following difficult starts to the season.
Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers has come under increasing pressure this season after failing to live up to last season’s exploits, when he led the Reds to second place in the Premier League and a long-awaited return to Champions League football. Simeone would bring a fresh approach and a hard-man approach to several under-performing players.
Arsenal
The criticism of Arsene Wenger has continued this season, with the Gunners boss so far failing to built on last season’s FA Cup success, with his team quickly cut adrift in the race for the Premier League title. Will no doubt secure a top four finish, but it’s whether that continues to be deemed good enough. Simeone would represent a quite drastic change in approach, but that could be healthier than trying find a like-for-like approach.
Manchester City
Another team that has failed to live up to expectations this season, despite still being second in the Premier League. Pellegrini will ultimately live or die by whether he is able to secure progress in the Champions League, and will likely need to reach at least the quarter finals to be deemed acceptable. Simeone’s recent success in the competition would make him an attractive option to the Manchester City owners.
Borussia Dortmund
With Dortmund bottom of the German league, Jurgen Klopp is under intense pressure, despite his previous success with the German giants. Simeone would surely be unreceptive to a move to Dortmund, despite their immense potential and talented playing staff, purely because he’s a man that is desperate to win trophies.
Paris Saint Germain
Laurent Blanc has ensured an unbeaten start for PSG in the league so far this season, while they have also sealed qualification to the Champions League knockout stage. But like Manchester City, Blanc will be judged on his levels of success, and will need to meet the high demands of a club that have spent lots of money.
Argentina
The former Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino took over at Argentina following the World Cup, winning three and losing two of his five games so far. If this job were to become available in the future, you have to think Simeone would love the opportunity to manage his country, and deliver their long-awaited success.
