Which club’s new signings are making the difference?
With so much money spent on new signings every summer, it is always worth checking how well the much-hyped new-boys are actually doing for their new clubs. Likewise, it is good to hold the big boys to task over their mammoth spending and see if their new additions are doing the business on the pitch.

This summer was one of the busiest in living memory, with some truly huge names making their way to England or moving between the top clubs in the Premier League, so here’s a look at who is now feeling the benefits of their summer transfer window spending, with a list that shouldn’t provide too many surprises…
1) Chelsea – 14/30
In first place, it is no surprise to see Chelsea’s new signings leading the way with a total contribution of 14 goals out of the 30 scored by the Blues in the Premier League so far this term. Jose Mourinho’s new-look team currently lead the league and look big favourites to win the title thanks to the goals and quality of £32m Spanish striker Diego Costa, who has already netted eleven times for the Blues. Cesc Fabregas and Didier Drogba have also contributed one each.
2) Arsenal – 12/21
Again a fairly unsurprising statistic, but Arsenal have owed so much of their success this season to one man – £35m summer signing Alexis Sanchez, who has been in superb form in front of goal since moving from Barcelona. The Chilean has scored eight times so far, while goals from fellow new arrivals Danny Welbeck and Calum Chambers bring the Gunners’ total up to 12 goals out of 21 scored by new signings. Good business from Arsenal, though a bit more money spent on players who prevent goals might’ve seen them with a higher points total at this stage!
3) Manchester United – 7/22
With so much spent on new players, you’d perhaps expect this new-look Manchester United team to fare higher on this list, with only 7 of their 22 league goals so far contributed by new purchases. Angel Di Maria has three of those, while Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao have also been in on the act, though it is the latter who would’ve been expected to score far more since his eagerly-anticipated loan move from AS Monaco.
4) Liverpool – 4/16
Once again, with so many new players, Liverpool should really be doing better than this, as the likes of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana haven’t hit top form at Anfield so far. Signed for £16m to replace last season’s top scorer Luis Suarez after his move to Barcelona, Balotelli hasn’t found the back of the net once yet in the Premier League, and has badly let his new club down with his performances.
5) Manchester City – 3/27
After a relatively quiet summer in the transfer market, it is perhaps not surprising that Manchester City’s new players have not contributed a great deal in terms of goals. All three of their strikes from new signings have come from one player, and that is on-loan midfield veteran Frank Lampard. Defenders Bacary Sagna and Eliaquim Mangala are not yet off the mark, and neither is defensive-minded midfield player Fernando.
6) Tottenham Hotspur – 2/18
Finally, in last place, Tottenham Hotspur have also found goals from new signings come from just one player – both from young defender Eric Dier, both in his first two appearances in the English top flight. Spurs looked like they needed new additions in attack but could not bring them in, so it is again not all that surprising that their new defensive additions have not contributed a great deal in that department.
