Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has finally been offered a contract extension, with Brendan Rodgers confirming that a new deal was on the table in his latest press conference, reports the Mirror.

Questions have been raised over whether Liverpool’s talismanic midfielder can still perform at the highest level, casting a shadow of doubt over his future at the Merseyside club.
It seems Liverpool still have faith in the former England international however, as is evident by the new deal that has been put forward.
There will be no rush to get the contract signed however, and Rodgers is prepared to wait for an answer from the experienced midfielder.
“Firstly in terms of the club the latest is that Steven Gerrard and his representatives have been offered a contract here and at this moment in time that’s where it’s at,” said Rodgers.
“For Steven, everything he’s done in the period of time he’s been here, for 16 years, is a man who deserves utmost respect and time to consider that. It’s not just a big move in his life in terms of commitment but needs time and respect to look at that.
“It certainly won’t be money. I’ve spoken to him enough times at length and that won’t be the case. Between now and the end of the season he deserves the opportunity to think.”
The new deal is believed to contain a slight pay-cut, representing the decreased impact Gerrard is likely to have in the future. At 34-years-old he is no longer able to dominate the game like he used to, but clearly Liverpool feel he still has plenty to offer at Anfield.
The Reds captain has some thinking to do himself, as he may want to explore the possibility of playing abroad before the end of his career.
