The Citizens are also keen to keep the midfielder at the club until March this campaign, as Yaya Toure will be competing at the African Cup Of Nations in January and February.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini has been impressed by the 36-year-old since his move to the Etihad Stadium in the summer. The former England international has scored four goals in ten appearances for last season’s Premier League Champions.

Lampard has been one of the only players to have impressed in an under-performing side, with his goal against his old club Chelsea being a highlight so far.

Speaking in the build up to their game against Southampton, Pellegrini said, “We are going to talk to all the parties and make a decision in December. If all parties agree then maybe we can keep him, but it could be that we want to keep him and Frank wants to go.”

As Lampard is contracted to sister club New York City FC, it shouldn’t be difficult to re-sign him or extend his deal should City want to. The original transfer caused controversy because of the link between the two sides.
