There was plenty of impressive performances this weekend as the Premier League returned following an international hiatus, but there was also plenty of nightmare displays, particularly from Arsenal and Liverpool who both lost once again to continue their dreadful campaigns.

This is our worst Premier League XI of the weekend:

GK) Asmir Begovic (Stoke City)

Begovic is usually one of the most solid and dependable ‘keepers in the Premier League, but he should’ve done much better with Danny Ings’ opening goal for Burnley.

RB) Javier Manquillo (Liverpool)

Manquillo has largely been okay since joining Liverpool on loan this summer, but he will be having nightmares about Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie tonight.

CB) Dejan Lovren (Liverpool)

Lovren is quickly turning into one of the poorest signings that the Premier League has seen – unless things improve, Liverpool have spent £20m on a defender who simply cannot defend.

CB) Nacho Monreal (Arsenal)

Monreal isn’t a central defender, so it is both mystifying and a damning indictment of Arsenal’s transfer policy that he is continually being played there.

LB) Glen Johnson (Liverpool)

Put quite simply, Johnson is a liability, whether he is playing at right or left back.

RM) Victor Moses (Stoke City)

Moses has, on the whole, had a fine season for Stoke City, but a poor performance against Burnley was compounded by a terrible dive.

CM) Claudio Yacob (West Bromwich Albion)

Yacob’s crazy decision to dive into a two-footed challenge on Diego Costa made things even more difficult for the Baggies at Chelsea.

CM) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Gerrard was a yard off the pace all afternoon against Crystal Palace and is starting to look like a real liability.

RM) Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

Ramsey’s form is becoming a real concern for Arsenal, he was completely off colour this weekend – poor on the ball and anonymous throughout.

SC) Robin van Persie (Manchester United)

United may have won against van Persie’s former club Arsenal, but the Dutchman’s dismal display was a contender for the worst individual performance of the weekend.

SC) Danny Welbeck (Arsenal)

Had a poor game in his first meeting with his former club, missed a couple of excellent chances and went missing in the second half.
