Liverpool have offered right-back Glen Johnson a two year extension on his contract which expires next summer, the Mirror reports.
Johnson is currently on roughly £120k-per-week, which is an obscene amount for a player who is by no means an automatic starter for the Reds anymore.
As a result, Liverpool want him to agree to have his wages cut in half and sign terms on a £60k-per-week deal. If he does that, he will stay until he’s at least 32-years-old, but reports suggest that Johnson would rather run his contract down and sign for another side on a free transfer – which he’ll be able to do freely come the turn of 2015.
Italian club AS Roma have been strongly linked with his services, but like Liverpool – they’d unlikely offer him anything close to what he’s currently earning at Anfield.
If he were to join the Serie A giants though, he’d join up with Ashley Cole, the man who used to play on the opposite side of him in England’s defence.
